This is the birth of Jacob last month – at home in the water. It was a lovely afternoon birth, and mama did an amazing job. She had the help of a wonderful doula, Cris Harper, and two midwives I’m becoming well acquainted with – Michelle Freund and her assistant Katie. I arrived in active labor, around 2:15 in the afternoon, and soon mama was pushing and then Jacob was born into his daddy’s hands at 3:38, and passed to mama to meet her baby face to face. Jacob was so peaceful and serene and hardly cried at all, content to simply lie on his mom’s chest. Another beautiful example of natural birth. Enjoy the photos below and the slideshow at the bottom.
Baby Kyan was born last month – at home in the water to a very sweet and much-loved family. Mom and Dad are chiropractors, and Kyan also has two older brothers who were very excited to meet their new comrade. I arrived at the home at 7 pm, followed by the midwives at 7:30 pm, and baby Kyan arrived at 7:48pm! It was a beautiful birth. Below are some favorite photos, and at the bottom is the slideshow. I was just looking through photos from 2012 to do some archiving, and I thought it would be fun to post some of my favorites from newborn sessions. I have so been looking forward to sharing these photos with you. This is the natural birth of gorgeous baby boy Hudson. His mama is the beautiful and talented Amanda of Organic Bebe Photography, and in November I did a fun family maternity shoot for them. We didn’t know if Hudson would be a boy or a girl, and it’s always fun to photograph surprise babies! Mama was so strong and powerful and beautiful during this birth. She was feeling defeated after staying at 4cm for a very long time, but went from 4 to 10 in about an hour, and delivered in just a few pushes. I was especially impressed when she turned down an epidural during transition!
I came back to the hospital the morning after the birth to capture Hudson meeting his older brother and sister, with a Fresh 48 session. There were some really sweet moments where big bro and sis were smelling Hudson’s head, and searching for his itty bitty feet in the blankets, and of course holding him. It’s so nice to come back and complete the birth story with the meeting of siblings (or grandparents).
